SNS Live

An aside: with each passing day I realize I am not really qualified to teach this class. Look at the conferences I don't go to. Hey, lots of people had lots to say this week, so check out everybody else's stuff. I''m just going to make sure we have quick cuts to MySpace, LiveJòurnal, Friendster, Facebook, and ... God help me ...it turns out we're old and ugly and marking time until death ...eons. Sara thought LJ had some interesting communities of interest, but I would observe that Wikia may be doing the same subject better. Certainly, this is Sara's idea of heaven. I wonder if the smaller, more lcosed model may ultimately be mre effective. Renee pointed out this.

eons has a link for obituaries.

My school automatically blocks MySpace and Facebook because it falls under the catagory "socializing" and "dating", but apparently Eons isn't a threat.

Lord in heaven! An X-Files page I have not yet visited? Oh, I beg to differ: You are more than qualified to teach this class. ;)

I want to write a program that randomly generates coherent sentences and run in on Eons so that I can perpetually blog even after I'm dead.

joeydee, check out Markov chains. A good illustration can be found here.

I believe that spammers are trying to use Markov chains to try and beat spam filters.

Or to create a faux markov chain based on the comments above:

Lord in Heaven! I want to write My school automatically links for obituaries to teach this class perpetually blog even after I'm dead.

Wow! A site that I'm too young to join online. Should I lie about my age?

I realize everyone is probably off in class already and won't get to see this until after class, but here are some other networks I would like to recommend:

Political social networks:
DFA Link and PartyBuilder. Also check out essembly.com.

For non profits, check out Omidyar.net.

Now, should we set up a Facebook group for Colin's class?

OK, I take it back. I don't REALLY want to write a program--my last programming class was in C++ and I got a -- you guessed it -- C+. Not bad considering no one could understand more than one of any three consecutive words coming out of the instructor's mouth. From that point on I ran in another direction. But thanks for the Markov info, Aldon, I think I know now howe all those annoying spam emails I receive on a daily basis get their subject lines. (No need to suggest a spam filter--I had one once but I think some spyware program blasted it into oblivion...)
